The Sveti Križ Začretje castle is unique in its “V” shape. Its floor plan organization shows the spatial integrity and skillfully designed composition of the castle and its immediate surroundings. A double, sixty-meter-long alley of wild chestnuts used to lead to the entrance to the castle. The value and peculiarity of the castle is its park, which was probably built in the 18th century, during the time of the Sermage family, who were known for richly designed Baroque gardens. The attractiveness of the park stems from the garden terraces in front of the semicircular tower and the stairs that descend to the lower part of the park by the slope of the hill. The park was given its final shape by the Schlippenbach family, when it stretched across the plain below the castle and included a lake south of the main road. Today, the lake is managed by the Krap Sport Fishing Association.
